The strategic value of language certification
When sending a CV, applying to a school, or requesting a visa, it's impossible for a recruiter to know if you can effectively hold a professional conversation in French... that's when language certificates become important. A certificate is an attestation that validates your ability to perform a task. In this particular case, it's about the ability to speak French at a professional level. Having a language certificate can have several advantages, such as:
- Gain professional/academic credibility: A certificate is not only a proof of your level but also of your commitment. Demonstrating a willingness to learn and to take on a challenge shows values that few other actions can.
- Boost your profile: It has become common to request a French certificate to accompany job or school applications. Also, possessing a French diploma sets you apart from other candidates and also improves your chances of significantly increasing your income in your current position.
- Open new horizons: Various institutions in Switzerland and other French-speaking countries require a language diploma when applying for visas or admission. If you want to integrate into Swiss society or explore opportunities in French-speaking regions, a diploma can be your ticket to success. If all this is starting to make sense for you, then there are two main questions you should ask yourself:
- What test should I take?
- How can I prepare myself and ensure the success of my project?
What test do I need to take?

WARNING: Preparing for an exam is not the same thing as learning a language! There are several tests that may be suitable for you. However, the most popular English exams are the First Certificate Cambridge (FCE), the Certificate of Advanced English (CAE), the TOEFL test or the IELTS test.
For French, the DELF - DALF Certificate.
For German, the GOETHE Certificate or the Telc B2 Certificate.
How can I prepare and pass a test?
WARNING: Preparing for an exam is not the same thing as learning a language! Reaching a B1 or B2 level in English, French, or German can be achieved faster than ever, but that does not mean you are fully ready for a test. Certification exams assess your listening comprehension, reading comprehension, writing skills, and grammar accuracy.
For this reason, the best way to succeed is to prepare through a motivating and in-depth training program led by certified teachers (REALLY IMPORTANT). Teachers who can guide you step by step through the subtleties of the exam and ensure that your language skills are as strong as your focus and efficiency.
With the right guidance and motivation, you will succeed in your exam and be able to use your certificate to open new opportunities.
Swiss Language Group has been an expert in exam preparation since 1988 and provides students with the right guidance to successfully pass their exams.
